Family of man allegedly killed by police want body buried at police headquarters

The family of a man who was allegedly brutalized and killed by two police personnel at Adomfe in the Ashanti Region has requested that he is buried at the forecourt of the Konongo Divisional Command HQ.

In a petition to the Ashanti Regional Security Council, the family of Alfred Kofi Ampoma, through their lawyer said burying him at there will remind the police of their core mandate to protect and not to brutalize people.

“It will serve as a reminder to them whenever they go out: They are to protect life but not to destroy life,” Asamoah Agyemang said.

Three police officers have been interdicted after they allegedly beat up Ampoma to death in the Asante Akyem South District of the Ashanti region.

A statement from the Ashanti Regional Police Command named General Sergeant, Suleman Seidu; General Corporal, Seth Agbango and General Lance, Corporal Salifu Yakubu were fingered.

An eyewitness to the incident who is also and a brother of the deceased told reporters that Mr Ampoma had stopped to fix his faulty car when the officers allegedly attacked him.

The deceased is a 33-year-old driver, Kofi Ampoma, popularly known as ‘Barluso’ who passed on at Adomfe on Tuesday.

The police say they have begun investigations into the incident and have urged the resident at Adomfe to remain calm.

They have requested an independent investigation into their relative’s death should be probed because they do not trust the results of the autopsy investigation by the police which is yet to be released.

Amphora’s family also wants an independent probe to be approved so that justice and fairness are guaranteed for their late relatives.

Their lawyer alleges that evidence so far has been planted in the autopsy examination.

“Police cannot probe police. They planted Indian Hemp on our relative to induce the conclusion that he was dealing in Indian Hemp, meanwhile it is not true,” he said.

Speaking to JoyNews, Chief Executive of the Asante Akyem South Municipal Administration, Alexander Frimpong, is calling for restraint from the bereaved relatives and other residents, pending release of the autopsy report.

He urged the family of Alfred Ampoma and residents of the Adomfe community to maintain confidence in the investigation process.
