Veteran Ghanaian female artiste, Akosua Agyapong has debunked reports claiming she once dated Ghanaian boxer, Azumah Nelson.
Commenting on these reports, she indicated that contrary to what was reported, she did not compose the song “Mena mede meho na mese meware no aden”, translated to (I’ve chosen to marry him and so what) to throw shades at the former WBC super featherweight world champion.
After the song was released in the early 1990s, there were wild rumours suggesting that it was in response to Akosua’s mother’s opposition to her plans to marry Azumah Nelson since they were of different ethnic groups.
This perception has lived with a lot of people since neither of the two came to clear the air.
“People say I did that song because of Azumah, people say Azumah was chasing me and my mum didn’t want me to marry Azumah but no, I didn’t even know Azumah then, I knew him to be a boxer but I’ve not even met him before,” Akosua Agyapong said in a recent interview.
