The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Savelugu Constituency, Mohammed Abdul Samed Gunu has been banished from Diare community by residents, MyNewsGh reports.
According to members of his own party who led the revolt in the area, he must ensure that the water project and the Senior High School (SHS) he promised them are delivered before he can visit to discuss issues about the next election.
The aggrieved residents who told MyNewsGh that they have been taken for a ride by the MP, want this to serve as a deterrent to others who may win future elections in the area insisting that the fact they live in a rural area does not mean they are fools.
Hon Mohammed Abdul Samed Gunu and his supporters were nearly lynched at the weekend in the area during a meeting with them to account for his stewardship within the last two and half years as a lawmaker.
But the meeting was characterized by confusion as residents claim it was the first time since he was voted for to have visited the community when his colleagues in other areas went round to show appreciation and interacted with constituents to chart a new path.
In the ensuing melee, the MP was chased out of the community while being hooted at with others in the background heard warning him never to return to the area if he valued himself as a lawmaker who need not renege on his promises.
Assemblyman for the area Moro Alhassan, when reached for his comments by this portal, confirmed they chased out the MP and will not entertain him again until he makes do with his promises.
“He gave us promises and fortunately he won and went to parliament. After the elections, he did not even come back to show appreciation to the residents. Most of those who chased him are NPP members…he told them that if he won the seat his priority was providing them water for the area and a Senior High School but none has been achieved”, he revealed.
What is said to have provoked them, Moro Alhassan revealed was his refusal to visit the community to interact with them only to surface and started condemning the previous administration which angered the residents.
“He continues to use an old project to brag as his achievement. But the residents resolved not to deal with him if he dares visit the area”, he revealed.
