A major shakeup has taken place at the top bracket of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), the first since the appointment of Col Kwadwo Damoah (Rtd) as Commissioner.
As the tsunami rages on, the Deputy Commissioner in charge of Operations, Mr Seth Dwirah, has been reassigned to the Ministry of Finance, the Deputy Commissioner of Preventive, Alhaji Seidu Iddisah, and his second in command have been shifted to the Customs Academy at Agortime-Kpetoe in the Volta Region.
The vacant position in Preventive is now being filled by Assistant Commissioner Mr Yacuub Seidu as Acting Deputy Commissioner.
The most senior person with the rank of Assistant Commissioner, Mr Felix Mate Kojo, has been promoted to the rank of Deputy Commissioner with responsibility over Policy and Planning, Assistant Commissioner Madam Hannah Acquah Sampson moves from Free Zones to Post Clearance Audit, Assistant Commissioner Dr Okoh-Appiah from the Tema Port to the Ministry of Finance, with the Commandant of the Customs Academy Assistant Commissioner Appiah Warden taking his place.
Meanwhile, as the internal shake up continues with more areas affected, the Minister of Finance has given approval for the new Commissioner, Col Kwadwo Damoah, to wear the Customs uniform.
Customs, which is responsible for the collection of large chunk of state revenue, has not been meeting set targets for the last two years, a state which culminated in earlier changes at the commissionership a little over a month ago.
