Cote d’Ivoire’s football legend Didier Drogba has officially retired from playing.
The former Chelsea and Marseille forward announced his retirement on Wednesday, drawing the curtains on an illustrious career spanning over two decades.
Other than Chelsea and Marseille, the 40-year-old played for Le Mans, Guingamp, Shanghai Shenhua, Galatasaray, Montreal Impact and Phoenix Rising.
Drogba is ranked fourth in the list of Chelsea’s all-time top scorers with 164 goals.
While in England, he won four Premier League titles, four FA Cup titles, three Football League Cup titles and one Champions League.
He also won one Süper Lig while at Galatasaray and the Western Conference while at Phoenix Rising.
He played 104 times for Cote d’Ivoire, scoring 63 goals.
“I wanna thank all the players, managers, teams and fans that I have met and made this journey one of a kind!!!” Drogba said through his official Twitter handle on Wednesday.
“Also a huuuuge thank you and love to my family, my personal team for supporting me all my career during the ups and downs no matter what. Looking forward to the next chapter and hoping God will bless me as much as he did for my football career.”
Drogba is widely expected to start a coaching career.
